To answer your question, my son has a separate user there on the PC.

I've actually already done what you suggested:

While logged in to the PC with my son's user, I signed-in with my account on the Microsoft store app. I downloaded the desired games and then signed in with my son's account. This allowed my son to play the games.

However, this does not solve the problem. Your suggestion allows my son to play the games I purchased, but severely compromises MY microsoft account.

After I've signed in to the microsoft store using my account, even if I sign-in again using my son's account...

1. My son can always switch back to my account on the Microsoft store app. He will not be required to enter my password or PIN (which he does not know of course) - he will only be asked to enter his own PIN (which is very weird). This means my son could gain access to my microsoft store account and purchase more games and apps without requiring my approval.

2. What is even worse, is that when I logged in to the microsoft store using my account... Then MY microsoft account was added to the list of my son's accounts. That is, when my son is logged on to the PC, under settings-->accounts-->Email & accounts, under "Accounts used by other apps", I could see my account listed.

This allowed my son to access any app or website that uses my microsoft account. For example, on the Edge browser, my son could now log in to my account and see my bookmarks and history.

So I needed to remove my account from "accounts used by other apps" - which caused the games to stop working again on his account...

There has to be a legitimate way to share the game without compromising the parent's Microsoft account!

If your son already has a Microsoft Account, then it's not possible to transfer "your" Xbox account to your son, I'm afraid.

Just for clarification:

When these two tiles are greyed out, your son probably isn't joined to Xbox Live at all (not even as a free member).

When your son is signed in on his console, you need to use the "Join Xbox Live" option and follow the instructions.

When asked for a Microsoft Account, provide your son's Microsoft Account email.

If the console tells you that this Microsoft Account is already tied to a Gamertag, you need to decide, if your son keeps that Gamertag, and simply downloads the profile with the Microsoft Email address, but this means losing all previous game progress.

Or you make a new Microsoft Account email, join that to your family and allow your son to join Live with the new Microsoft Account.

Or you need to make a new Microsoft account, download the current Microsoft account with the Gamertag, and

move the Gamertag to the new Microsoft Account.

This will free your sons current Microsoft account, and you can then use that (after a 30 day "cooldown" period) to join his existing Gamertag on the console with that Microsoft Account.

Just to confirm, the vault edition was purchased with your Microsoft account or with your son’s Microsoft account?

I just want to clarify, are you unable to purchase on Microsoft Store using your son's Microsoft account, is that correct?

Is your son's account added under a Microsoft family with an active adult account as the organizer?

If yes, sign in to the adult account on account.microsoft.com > go to Family Settings > click on your son's account > then manage or remove the purchase restrictions.

Note: Disable the "Ask to buy" feature.

Then try to purchase again using your son's account on the Microsoft Store.
