Son wants xbox for xmas...I'm clueless

I hate to admit it but even after researching, I still feel clueless when it comes to xbox. My 9 year old wants an xbox for Christmas so he can play minecraft with his friends in multiple locations. Is xbox one sufficient to do this? Kinect has nothing
to do with being able to connect to other players right? Would xbox 360 work as well or is that pretty much outdated at this point? Thank you for any advice!

Xbox one is more powerful xbox one minecraft has bigger worlds and more people so get a xbox one version

 

The big question is what consoles do your sons friends have.? If they all have xbox 360's then there is no point buying an xbox one as there is a risk that your son wont be able to play with them due to different console versions. Either way each console
has its merits - xbox 360 has a larger user base at the moment but is now running on old hardware and can be picked up fairly cheaply, where as the xbox one is the new generation, comes at a cost, has bigger worlds but the game is not due out till sometime
this month, last time I checked. (even though you can upgrade your 360 version to the xbox one)

I would see what consoles and versions his friends are playing on and use that for the basis of your decision.

Understand that but his sons friends might have them already thats all... if its from scratch then I agree with you and go for the Xbox One.

 

Go with $400 x1. Do not put your credit card info into the system, let your son buy Microsoft points/dollars from the local store.

Do review how to set up a kid's account. Do review developers restrictions. Ex if I remember correctly EA will not allow 13 minus kids play some of their games.

Talk with your kids friends parents, this may change your mind about what console to get.

Kinect is just a motion capture device which allows you to play games while jumping around your living room like an idiot.

Don't put the console in your kids room, keep in the living room so you have more control of time spend on the console.

Do place restrictions on the console. Aka JR must get all "B"s or no gaming.

Do check out the reviews of games to make sure it up your kids alley.

Do find games you and your kid can play together.
