"Something went wrong" in system update

I turned on my xbox and it asked to apply a system update. It got through the first two sections of the update, but then went to a screen saying "something went wrong." System Error: E100 00000703 80910002

I have tried restarting the console several times, but it just gets stuck at the same spot.

I looked through the support pages and followed the processes outlined. I tried copying the update to a flash drive ans installing it, but I have the same problem. I tried to initiate a factory reset, both with and without preserving my existing data.
Honestly I suspect the system didn't actually apply these resets because it went instantly back to the same system update screen; it didn't have enough time to erase the data on my hard drive. It seems to just be caught in a loop where it tries to finish
the update, as that is the first thing it was instructed to do when it boots. But the update won't finish because of this error.

What am I supposed to do about this? I can't even find a link to get support from microsoft on this matter.

You said you restarted your console, have you done a hard shutdown? Try holding in the main button for 20 seconds or so and that should do a hard shutdown. And/or try unplugging the console altogether. I hope that helps!

Well for no apparent reason it actually worked after the thirtieth time I told it to restart.

So I guess the issue is resolved.

It means that something went wrong with the download - it's a lot better than downloading the update, something being wrong with it, and it bricking your system.

For completeness sake, when attempting an update with the system update offline diagnostic tool i received the following

Then, when trying to factory reset
