1. Select Forgot your password?

If the "Enter Password" window is still open, select Forgot your password?

If not, select Reset Password below, type the username of the account you are trying to reset, and select Next.

2. Verify your identity

For your protection, Microsoft must verify your identity before you can proceed with the password reset.

1. Choose how you want to receive a verification code.

2. Select Next.

3. Get a verification code

For your protection, we will ask you to confirm the verification details you select.

Depending on the contact method you choose, retype the first part of the email address or the last four digits of the phone number shown in the window above.

Select Get Code.

Microsoft will send you a verification code to the email or phone number you selected.

Go to the recovery phone or email where you expect to receive the code.

4. Enter the code and reset the password
Confirm the code to create a new password. Learn how to create a strong password.

Copy or type the code you received and select Next.

Enter your new password and select Next.

So i forgot my password to my old account and I do the send information to alternate account but that doesn't work. What should I do?

If you can't use any of the password reset options, you can still get access to your Microsoft account by completing an online account recovery form. To do this, go to Recover your Microsoft account, follow the steps in the section above and choose I can’t
use any of these options. Then, follow the prompts to complete the online account recovery form to recover your account.

call xbox live support for your area and they'll help you recover the gamertag, as for the live account, im unsure about that, there is an account recovery section in the "i forgot my password" even if the theif has changed your security there is a guide
on what to do next.
