When I buy a game on my Xbox One and upgrade to an X/S does the dlc that I paid for also carry over for the game?

So you're saying for example if I bought Forza 5 on my Xbox one and then switched to Xbox X/S the dlc I pay for would be available to me on the X/S and I wouldn't have to purchase that add on again. Just want to clarify so no confusion, I looked everywhere and couldn't find a clear answer or tutorial on this question.

Yes, all the content available for a game that supports smart delivery

An example for this could be Forza Horizon 5 or Resident Evil 7

If you double check the available add-ons, there is no separate Xbox one add-ons

Smart delivery only works if you bought a game that supports it

Most 3rd party games requires you to buy the cross gen version with special deals for the Xbox 1st party games being smart delivery

Some games will be just the Xbox one x enhanced versiin
