SL1 Questions Plus Tips and Tricks

I know a lot of people do SL1 runs, so I thought maybe we could have a thread for tips and tricks for low level runs and also for people to ask questions.

One thing I recently learned was that the latest patch made it so that holy water doesn't hurt bosses anymore. Holy water used to wreck some bosses, like the Gargoyles, but now it does no damage at all.

interesting, i always thought it just worked on undead NPCs. may have to try it since im still running 1.00 version LOL.

 

4 vials of holy water used to be able to take down a gargoyle. Holy water also used to wreck the Ruin Sentinels. Now, I buff just after I kill the first one and then throw witching urns at the second one as he approaches. When he jumps up, I get as many
hits in as I can before I have to drop down to get away.

Fun fact: it takes about 26 casts of Resonant Soul at SL1 to take down Darklurker.

 

Has anyone tested the Chime of Screams and the Ring of Prayer while wearing the Crown of the Sunken King to see how high you can get your FTH stat at sl 1? If not, I will test it out and report when I get a chance.

 

I just tested. With the chime of screams, ring of prayer, and crown of the sunken king, you can get your faith all the way up to 20. This could be very useful. Even though you can't use the chime of screams, you can use it in your off hand to raise your
faith and cast more powerful spells with a chime you can use. It also opens up the ability to use the witchtree bellvine, the priest's chime, or the disc chime.

 

The Insolent Helm gives you 2 faith when wearing it. So it is an option as well.

BTW, in case anyone is wondering why I want to raise my faith as much as possible, it's for NG+ against the Darklurker. If you cast Profound Still, the only attacks Darklurker can do are melee attacks. So, my plan is to spice down Profound Still to the
point that I can use it for the fight.

 

If anyone is having trouble with Throne Watcher and Defender, a good tip to know is that you can stagger the Defender with 3 or 4 hits from your mace (2 handed). So, the strat I used was to not even worry about taking down Defender's health until I had
killed Watcher. I did that by waiting for Watcher to flip backwards, which separates them, then getting her (him?) to attack, countering once and then backing off to repeat.

Once Watcher is down, just keep the pressure on Defender. Eventually he should try to revive Watcher. If you stay close to him, you should be able to stagger him out of the spell he uses to revive Watcher, which will cancel the animation and keep Watcher
from reviving. At that point, he should almost be dead too, so just keep up the pressure until he dies and "You Defeated".
