Shrinking games - Xbox Series X

I was looking through the menus of my Xbox Series X, and I found an option to shrink games to get more hard drive space.

What exactly does this do?

Compresses files but keep in mind you may gain more if you remove hd textures etc

Compression only does so much

And the xbox has a on the fly decompressor

hardly any games are shrinkable, gears 5 is and it reduces it by half virtually, it removes high res assets and other files, does not compress the game at all.

No just saves a few mbs like I said if you really want to save space you need to cut components or use an external hdd for temporary memory though wirhnthe new western digiral.drives.expansion cards coming soon (NOT SSD OR HDD) it will be cheaper and more convenient to use the storage cards

First, thank you so much for contacting us regarding your inquiry/ concern.

In theory, this is a great feature that minimizes the space a game takes up. However, it can cause some problems, especially when new updates are released for game titles.

What this feature essentially does (Not Official Information but gained through knowledge among the gaming community) when we play a game, as we play and complete certain missions, those completed missions will be removed. It'll act like dominos, as you progress in the game, data will be removed from the game file itself while allowing you to move forward with new data for current missions all while keeping the game file size down to a minimum.

As a player, I would advise against it.
