Should my Xbox Series X generate heat while off for many hours?

My brand new XSX stays constantly warm on top. I noticed it last night after the console had been off. When I woke up this morning, a whole 8 hours later, it is still warm! Why is it generating heat? I have the instant-on feature, but I've switched it to
power saving and the issue is gone. Even so, why is instant-on working the console so much it actually generates warmth that I can feel when I touch it? It worries me about the unit's heat management when it'll actually be running a taxing game at 120 fps.

Is the console supposed to be constantly generating slight heat with instant-on, even though it's been off and not downloading/updating for several hours?

Hi,

While it's true that the Series X can get rather warm in operation, it should not be loud. If it's loud, it's either been placed in a location where there isn't enough airflow or it's faulty. You'd be surprised how many users put their console inside enclosed cabinets or entertainment units and expect everything to be fine.

I have a Series X and I've played it for 3 to 4 hours on some weekends. It get's warm and I can feel this heat when I place my hand on top of the console, but it isn't at all loud, my Series X is really quite and remains quite during heavy usage. Mine is only slightly warm when on instant on.

Check if the console is too hot
We don't realize it while enjoying our favorite video game, but the components inside the console generate heat, especially when running a game at high graphic settings.

Unplug all the cables.
Give the console at least one hour to cool down.
Meanwhile, transfer the console to a well-ventilated space. Check if the top and bottom vents are open, as dust accumulations could block these vents.
Once the console loses all its heat, reconnect all the cables and turn it on.

Due to its design, the Xbox Series X can be placed either vertically or horizontally. But users should maintain 4-6 inches of clearance on all sides.

My xbox one x shuts off every time i land at the grotto and go into the wind tunnel but it does not say it over heated it says “this xbox is made to shut off after a little while” but the first time i experienced this issue was at a different time i was
playing my third hour i landed at the grotto then my console just shut off and it was 5:55 then the next day i land at the grotto agian at 3:30 it just shut off and this was my first hour

Im thinking this is a weak spot in the series x maybe it's heat related damage idk but it's not as uncommon as it should be

Latest gen consoles run hot the hotest for series x is 60 degrees so that's normal

You gotta remember ryzen cpus generate a lot of heat and it has to be vented
