Sharing GamePass subscription between XBox S and XBox One

I have until recently being using two XBox One’s at home for each of my children. They share an XBox GamePass account, so they can both play games on each separate Xbox One whilst signed into their own individual accounts.

A few days ago I bought a new Xbox Series S, to replace one of my son’s Xbox Ones. I signed in with the main account holder details and made it the home Xbox. Now my other son’s Xbox One cannot access any games or content that he previously had access to via the shared subscription.

I followed some tutorials and changed my son’s XBox One to the become the “home” console, but he still can’t access any content. The new XBox Series S is all fine, I just need help accessing the shared content on the second XBox, which is an XBox One.

To answer your inquiry, you can only game and subscription share an account using 2 consoles.

For example, if the account that you want to share is Account A (where all the games and subscriptions are owned there)

You will need to choose which of the 2x Xbox One console will you set Account A as the home Xbox to have the account shared on the console.

Then in order to share the games and subscriptions to the Xbox series S console, you need to let one of your sons to sign in Account A there and use the account for him to play the games and subscription (without setting the account as home Xbox)

The idea is that Account A is set as home Xbox for game sharing on Xbox One console and then use Account A on the Xbox series S console for the user to play the games and subscription.

(You can also do vice versa)

Note: An Xbox account has only 5 Xbox home switches these are the numbers of how many times you can set the account as Home Xbox so you need to use them wisely. If all the Xbox home switches are used up, you will need to wait for months for the next duration to replenish 1 Xbox home switch.)

I'm afraid not. Each Xbox live account (linked to a Microsoft account) must have a unique email address.

When it comes to Xbox Live Gold or Gamepass Ultimate subscriptions, they can share one subscription between them.

Thanks, to be honest I thought this may have been an issue with the shared subscription. That when a user has the Gold that comes with Xbox Live Gold or Xbox Gamepass Ultimate, that when one user attempts to play online, then another user sharing that same subscription tries to play online with the same person is causes subscription authentication issues perhaps. So if you don't have live gold that comes with Xbox Gamepass Ultimate or just Gamepass which does not come with gold, it is trying to use your friend's subscription verification on your account while they are already using it.

However, if you both have access to Xbox live gold then that probably isn't happening. Could you clarify if you have just Gamepass or Xbox GamePass Ultimate?

Thanks for reaching out to the forums with your inquiry. The difference between Xbox Live Gold and Xbox Gamepass is basically what the two subscriptions do. Xbox Live Gold is a paid subscription that enables you to be able to play online multiplayer with
your friends around the world. Xbox Live Gold also gives you access to Games with Gold and Deals with Gold. Xbox Gamepass is basically a paid subscription that enables your account to have access to the Xbox Gamepass Library of games that you are able to install
and play just by maintaining your subscription. Xbox Gamepass is for use on an Xbox One only.
