Shared MS account need to separate it

All or anyone! As with any parent I helped set up my son's xbox using my MS account information when he was younger, now he is much older and moved out but it seems that we are still linked via that same account where my PC and his Xbox use the same login. Is it as simple as him or I creating a new account and just handing over the old one to one or the other? When he changes it, it messes up my side and when I change it... well you know. Help! We are fearful of loosing data if we migrate or remove devices.

the microsoft account and xbox account are one in the same, they cannot be separated as they are the same.

he would have to take over your old account completely including the email or create a new account for himself.

what should have been done in the beginning is a child account created and yours as the parent then this would not have been an issue.

If they were willing to share the same Gamertag/MS Account then yes. If they want separate Gamertags/MS Accounts then no. Currently there is not a family plan for the Xbox 360 so if 2 accounts within the same household want Gold, then both will require a
separate subscription. If you have an Xbox One, only 1 account will need Gold and an unlimited amount of accounts within the household can use gold. Hope this helps!

On the 360 each account would need to have a separate gold subscription. The One allows for gold to be shared on a console.

There's not a setting to be able to share across PCs. You would either need to buy separate subscriptions or your account would need to sign into their PCs.

Unfortunately, there is no way to share Gold on the Xbox 360. Gold sharing was introduced with the Xbox One. You will need a separate subscription for each account on the 369 consoles.
