    Shadow Content Restrictions on PC


    Hi, I'm an adult (over the age of 20) and for some reason have content restrictions set on my account.

    What I see when I'm trying to download certain games (Rise of Nations, Extended Edition) on my PC using the (beta) Xbox PC GamePass:

    This is rated above [username]'s Restrictions

    Rise of Nations: Extended Edition is rated above the restrictions set on this account. To install, please ask an adult to sign in and download. Or you can continue to browse hundreds of games in the store.

    Things I've tried:

    • Maybe my account is considered a "Child account", so I need to leave my family group, but going to account.microsoft.com/family to leave the family group only shows the default "Create a Family Group" page, so I am unable to leave any family group

    • Enable content via the xbox account controls: Going to account.xbox.com and navigating to Xbox settings and clicking on "Access Content" brings me back to the default account.microsoft.com/family page. At this point, I can't do anything (see above)

    So here is my question: How do I remove these Content Restrictions? Normal suggested routs are not working and I'm not sure what to do.

    I'm having this exact same issue. Tried to download Gears Tactics on PC through the Xbox App and get a screen that says "This is rated above [your account's] Restrictions". Would really like to know how to resolve this. Might cancel subscription if I cannot
    figure it out. Did the same things above and was unable to resolve.

    Managed to fix this by signing out and signing back into my "store" account from within the Xbox App.

    Okay, so ive had this problem and i figured it out you simply have to download it through the microsoft store and not xbox app, gamepass will still work, this is one of the dumbest systems ive had to deal with...

    Hey guys -

    That sounds frustrating! Please follow the steps below:

    • Remove your Xbox Live profile from your Xbox One Console
    • Press and hold the power button on your Xbox One until the console completely powers off
    • Re-add your Xbox Live profile to your console
    Please let us know if that does not work so we can try to narrow down the issue even further!
