Setting up xbox for dolby atmos speakers

Hello.

I recently got a sony tv and I am planning to get a atmos surround sound neck speaker rig. I primarily use my Xbox S as a 4k uhd movie player.

As far as I know, there is a setup process for the tv to work with the speaker, which seems pretty straight forward.

However, when I turn on the Xbox, there also appears to be sound setting options on the Xbox unit itself.

If I go through the television/neck speaker device setup processes on the tv do I also need to change something on the Xbox so it plays the movies atmos sound through the neck speaker unit? or is the setup process done once it is configured through the tv settings?

Please let me know if you need more specifics. Thanks in advance for trying to help me.

Hello D3mondkid12! Dolby Digital is a system that designates 2.0 up to 5.1 or more channels where the speakers are arranged horizontally (designations include Dolby Digital, Dolby Digital EX, Dolby Digital
Plus) Dolby TrueHD is the next step but the speakers are still arranged horizontally.

Dolby Atmos is a system where speakers are arranged both horizontally and vertically. Examples include 3.1.2, 5.1.2, 5.1.4, 7.1.2, 7.1.4. The first number is the number of horizontal speakers, the second number
is the subwoofer, and the third number is the number of vertical speakers (vertical speakers can be placed on the ceiling or pointing up from the top of the horizontal speakers). Dolby Atmos information can be encoded within a Dolby True HD signal - if you
have a Dolby Atmos Blu-ray and your receiver doesn’t feature Dolby Atmos decoding, it will default to Dolby TrueHD, Hope it helps!

A Skilled Shot

Go to xbox settings, Choose "General", Set "speaker audio" to HDMI Bitstream out, then set " bitstream format" to Dolby Atmos for home theater. This will allow all games and apps that support dolby atmos to use those nice surround sound speakers. If you
get an error when choosing dolby atmos, you may need to make sure your hdmi from the xbox goes to the audio receiver directly with the audio reciever sending hdmi to the tv.

You may have to adjust settings on your audio receiver or tv.

You can also setup dolby atmos for a stereo headset pugged into your controller and have surround sound that way, nice for late nights when others are sleeping.

Does your TV support Dolby Atmos? Maybe you need to adjust your speaker settings

Do you have a Dolby Atmos compatible receiver, sound bar, or speaker system? If you do, have you changed the settings within 'Disc & Blu-ray settings' on your Xbox One to enable 'Let my receiver decode audio'? Currently Dolby Atmos is only supported within
the Blu-ray app for Dolby Atmos compatible Blu-Ray movies.

Hello again, I think there was a confusion about the term (neck speaker), I was referring to the headsets that really put themselves on the neck.

If you are referring to rear speakers and they are connected through optical output, they will be recognized as sound systems by xbox.
