    Setting up Windows Media centre (Extender)


    I have tried connecting my PC to my xbox 360 so i can use the xbox as an extended of Windows Media centre

    However I get the following message:

    Configuration error : An error was encountered while configuring your computer for use with this extender

    I have tried 4 times with the same result.

    (I run windows 7)

    Can anyone help?

    Does anyone know if the "ONE" can be used as a media centre extender with windows 7 or 8?

    hi I am trying to connect my xbox to the windows media centre, but it won't configure the extender - keeps encountering an error. I've changed the network list settings as per web advice, but this has not seemed to resolve it.

    what have you tried it should be simple enough to just open media centre on your pc/laptop then clicking add media extender, open media centre on console then enter the 8 digit number on media centre.

    When you set up the Windows Media Center Extender, did you uninstall the Windows Media Center Extender

    as described here     and they try setting it up again? Also, do these movies show cover art when in the int Media Center or is it not displaying artwork in either app? And when playing these videos through the Media Center app, are you on a wired or wireless
    connection? Do you notice a difference through various connection setups? Let us know. Thanks.

    Ditto, love Windows Media Centre and hoping the XBox One can replace the Xbox 360 as an extender, or better, as above have it integrated into the Xbox One. Microsoft - please advise ASAP.

    Setting up the XBox 360 as a Media Center Extender

    1. On your XBox 360 console, scroll up to My XBox

    2. Scroll across and select Windows Media Center

    3. Select Continue

    4. Note the 8-digit set-up key that is displayed. This is the key that will associate your XBox 360 console with the computer running Windows Media Center.

    5. On the computer open Windows Media Center

    6. Scroll down to Tasks, and then scroll across to Add Extender.

    7. Follow the prompts until you are asked for the 8-digit set-up key

    8. Enter the key. Then click Next

    9. Follow the prompts to complete the set-up.

    BTW you will not be able to view PowerPoint presentations this way. Media Center is purely for viewing Media
