Seriously….support just hung up on me.

And now the "support chat" guy just hung up on me.... Loooovely

I've just called support, they put me on hold for 25 minutes and then hung up.

Reference numbers will be of no use here, as customer support agents don't use the forums. Also, I've never heard of EA calling people and demanding money to fix "problems". Anything involving random calls to solicit money is likely a scam.

If I were you, I'd start changing passwords in your Microsoft account, EA account, and perhaps even your email inbox. Use two-step verification (if available) to further secure those accounts from fraud. Ignore any more calls from these people claiming to
be from EA, and do not give your personal information out.

I am as well. Drives me nuts because I called tech support and they basically just told me to bad and hung up.
