So even though for so long, I said I would never buy the XBOX series X, I did actually get one for Xmas. I've literally had every XBOX ever made and I would have thought that after 2+ decades, MS would have their you know what together. But then again, maybe this is why the windows phoned failed.

So going from an Xbox One X, to a Series X, I find it utterly ridiculous that there is no way to transfer 3rd party apps between consoles. When someone has had an One-X for years, and made it a central AV console, to have to re-register and sign in to every app, not to mention the fact that the apps themselves don't even transfer.

And yes, I actually did both methods, the back to external drive and the network transfer options. Here's my thing, Apple phones and Android phones have for the most part been doing this for years. And you MS force people to sign up for cloud this and cloud that, but yet you still don't have something this simple working.

So far a list of apps that didn't transfer, didn't copy settings, and/or didn't copy authentication.

AVC

Netflix

Disney+

Hulu

AppleTV

YouTubeTV

Showtime, Showtime anytime

ESPN

and there's more. But seriously, this is basic functionality these days, how can it be this disfunctional?

And yes, is there a chance I did something wrong, sure, but when I read the directions, watched the online videos, and did two methods and nothing worked, I doubt it's me.

Not a great experience so far folks. First impressions mean a lot. And I know, you'll probably just pass the buck and say well those are third party apps, but I design cloud systems, and I can tell you that if the login credentials are stored locally, they can be hashed in a way that makes them portable to the identical app version on another system.

the devs of the apps have to allow data transfer, and i know netflix and disney do not on the xbox console.

None of those apps support transferring those logins you have to sign in on each and every device regardless of platform

Most of them do support using an existing login device like a phone to quickly authenticate your account. Either way is such a thing as up to the people who write the application,

Not to mention, I just found that you (MS) purposely changed the lab layout on the new controllers so earlier generation rechargeable packs aren't compatible. Come on guys, seriously? The compartment and voltage is identical, but the tabs are further apart on the covers so they won't function properly.

I thought MS was "Green"? But I should throw away highly poisonous Lithium when really I don't need to? Shameful.

They are all the latest version on the source xbox and the target xbox. That has nothing to do with it. It's whether or not there is enough intelligence in the platform to recognize user space apps and transfer all settings. Heck, the fact that when you sign in to your account and it doesn't even automatically install apps that are installed from the previous generation.

There's zero intelligence in the platform. It's there for the games, but clearly not for the apps.

And as for the forum admin suggesting I put in a request, from searching the forums this appears to be nothing new, and seriously, from Microsoft? This is no different from the USMT tools that have existed for years. How could this be a "new" idea for a 20 yr old platform?

Not really you would.just download the new.version of the app

Not reusing legacy apps

This is the same with android you would transfer but the os would still queue the new versions since ita a new os
