Series X says disc is dirty/damaged and won’t download but my Xbox one can still read it

Hey basically it’s what’s in the title. I’m trying to download Red Dead Redemption 2 to my new series x and it starts to download almost 3/4 of the way and then it stops and tells me my disc is damaged. I use the first disc and it starts to download and then it says now insert disc two and it downloads too. It then stops at 73.9% and tells me to insert disc one again. I do and then my series x says that the disc is dirty/damaged and unreadable. I’ve tried deleting and restarting the download and unplugged my Xbox and tried again and then waited a month to finish the download after it sat at 73.9% and no progress. The weird thing is that I can put the disc in my old Xbox one, the original Xbox one that os over 10 years old and the disc and game run perfect. Why won’t it work on my new Xbox? I’m moving in a month and am only taking my new Xbox and want to be able to play rdr2. Please help me.

I found a solution... put the disc in DO NOT INSTALL FROM DISC... with disc in go to Xbox store and install from there while it recognizes you have the physical disc in the drive... it's the only thing that bypassed their software bug

Hello Drew, sorry to hear you're having trouble with the game.

If you're trying to install the game it may be easier to either do a network transfer or move the game to an external drive and then just attach it to the Series X. From there you should be able to move the game to the Series X and then only need the disc to play the game itself.

As for the discs themselves though check for any scratches that may prevent the reading of the disc properly. Another thing you could try is to take the console offline while you install the game as it's also possible that a game update may be interfering with the install as well.

Finally got the game working, broke down and cleaned the disc even though it wasn't dirty.....

That's weird, as the Xbox One does not use ANY content on the disc (as the machine "language" on the disc can't be understood by the Xbox One processor).

Xbox 360 game discs are only a "proof of purchase", and the Xbox One simply has to read the security sector of the disc to detect which game disc is inserted.

Then the console downloads the "translated" game data from the Xbox Live Marketplace in a format, with a Xbox 360 emulator. So no actual game data is read from the disc. So as long as the security sector of the disc is readable, the rest of the disc can
be scratched, dirty, or otherwise damaged, and the game will still run off the console's hard drive.

This error is a disc read error. A cyclic redundancy check (CRC) is an error reading the data from a disc. There could be a number of reasons for this:

The data on the disc is corrupt (highly unlikely)
The area of the disc being read is dirty or damaged
Your PC DVD drive laser isn't working as it should or the diode is dirty

The main part of of MSF2020 can be installed on practically any drive, it does not need to be C:\. Mine is installed on my internal SSD F:\ drive.

Check the disc isn't dirty or damaged. If it's dirty clean it with a soft none-abrasive cloth.
