    Series X periodic crashing while playing GTA IV


    I know the Series X launch has been plagued with crashing issues, but my exact problem as of yet doesn’t quite match the posts I’ve seen and I’d like to get some opinions.

    I’ve been playing GTA IV a lot over the weekend and have noticed the game crashes my console after 4 or 5 hours of continuous play. It’s happened 3 times so far in the past 3 days. The first 2 times, the game would freeze up for about 5 to 10 seconds, close, then my home screen would freeze up for a similar length of time and when it unfroze, restarting the game would cause the same thing to immediately happen on the splash screen. Restarting the console however resolved the issue until it happens again after playing for another several hours. The 3rd time, the console turned off completely but turned back on no issue and I can continue playing.

    I’ve had the console since launch and haven’t had any issues until now. Though admittedly, I don’t use my Xbox super frequently as I primarily play on PS. But I do play it for a few hours at a time here and there and haven’t had this happen. I even played Far Cry 4 for a few hours a couple days ago, immediately followed by GTA IV for a few more and GTA IV crashed it around the same time it has been thus far.

    What’s your take? Should I send it in now or wait to see if it gets worse and becomes a more significant problem?

    While the ESRB rating surrounding the GTA IV series is completely accurate, there are so many young kids who play GTA IV and have no intention on creating harm to others. You can also just order the game online where nobody knows how old you are and you'll
    get it.

    I know I'm not HomelessHippo69 but I am also having the exact same issue and I wanted to answer your questions. I also have the Xbox Series X and am playing the Series X version of BF2042



    1. The game crashes and/or restarts the xbox within around 15 minutes of playing the multiplayer game. It usually starts by just crashing the game but as I keep re-entering the game and play the crashing eventually turns into a full on shut off and restart of the console. I rarely can even finish a full round without crashing/restart of Xbox. The game seems to crash and/or restart my console in a shorter time period than usual when playing the game with friends. This is only happening when I play Battlefield 2042. Also,

    3. The game is running off the internal drive.
    4. I will submit a bug report.
    5. There are no game updates to install. There was a season 2 game update that happened earlier this week but this issue was happening even before the new update released.

    Yes all other games work just fine. But it seems that just gta won’t work. Ever since I tried to play it on my Xbox series x it has not worked. I don’t have the updated version of gta it is still the normal game but I looked it up and it said you can still play normal gta on Xbox series x.
