Series S won't allow me to select External Hard Drive for captures.

It allowed me to send all my games to the external hard drive. How ever when I go into preferences, then capture & Share I try to change where the captures are saved. It won't allow me to send it to the external hard drive. Anyone know how I fix this?

Hi, I hope you're doing great out there despite the issue that you're experiencing. I am an Independent advisor and I am here to help you in regards to your concern.

Just a friendly reminder that storage formatted for Xbox games won't work for captures. In setting up an External hard drive for media storage you need to reformat it to NTFS and you can only use the drive for media alone, if you will use it for storage games as well, you will be needing a second hard drive.

An external hard drive used on the One will work for the Series S/X, but won't have the exact same performance as the one created for the Series S/X.

If he has a Series S/X and is trying to play a Series S/X optimized game, it will only run on the internal drive or on an expansion card made for the Series S/X. It won't run on a regular external hard drive or SSD.

To transfer games from the internal hard drive to an external hard drive on an Xbox Series S or X, navigate to "My games & apps", select the game you want to transfer, choose "Move or Copy", then select the external drive as the destination and confirm.

Yes you can! As the Series S has limited space on the drive, you can connect an external hard drive to store games and media.

Are you sure about that?

I've got a Series S and all of my Series X|S games can ONLY run from either internal or expansion storage, they won't run from a slow external mechanical hard drive. Even an external SSD isn't considered quick enough for these games.

XBox One games can run from either but Series optimised games must run on internal or expansion.

You can back up Series games to external, but not run them there.
