    Series s slow and can't start games


    Hi

    I'm finding the series s slow and having trouble getting games to start.

    I don't mean the download speeds, just the actual menu and home page and the overall UI

    It's like if the console tries to do more than one thing at a time it locks up and nothing will load.

    I've tried the usual - ie clear cache, power off, hard reset, not having a full hard drive, wired connection etc etc

    It's frustrating to think I have to treat the console with kid gloves despite it being a latest generation peice of hardware.

    It seems to run okay once I've managed to get a game running, but as soon as I close it and try to load something else it's back to being locked up again and I have to wait ages/try various fixes, until the next game can be started.

    Is this normal? Anyone else had this problem?

    Ps my xbox one x had a very similar problem, although I don't recall it being this bad.

    External hard drive not working

    Hi,

    External hard drives are not fast enough for Xbox Series X|S titles. Unfortunately you can't play these games off slow USB external hard drives. They need either be installed internally or to an optional Xbox Series X|S Expansion card.

    I'm afraid it won't ever be 'configurable'. The real reason why your games can't be downloaded to the external drive is because you can't actually run Series X|S games from an external drive.

    External hard drives are far too slow to run Series X|S games. They need to be run either from the internal drive - which is a fast NVME SSD - or the optional memory expansion cards for the Series X|S consoles. Not even SATA based external SSD's are considered fast enough for X|S games.

    You can move Series X|S games for archive purposes to copy back to these faster storage locations to play, but you can't run Series X|S games from external storage.

    Games that have not been optimised for Series X|S have no such limitations.

    Not sure why the 'Independent Advisor' doesn't know this well known fact.

    Only the Seagate Expansion and the WD Black C50 work for Series X|S games. All other SSD's can only be connected via the USB port and they are too slow for Series X|S games

    It's only on the Series S/X that they can't be played on a regular hard drive. The hard drive is too slow to run the games properly. The One is fully capable of running all games from the internal or any external hard drive. The One wouldn't have been playing optimized games at the full S/X optimization due to hardware limitations.

    Just to reduce the confusion

    You gotta remember people mistake xbox one x for a series x when it comes to requirements for example flight simulator

    With xbox one games they don't have a listing for s or x they are all compatible

    Where series s or x just means digital or disk

    Disk games don't work with series s or one s digital edition

    Back to your problem.

    Are you using an external hdd ?

    Also when it slows down again is it because you are filling up your hdd?

    As space becomes less computers do slow down

    It would be better to get an external drive and put infrequent games on there so you don't too much things on your internal drive
