Series S controller doesn't function with Series console, but works on PC and One S console

I have two xboxes (One S and Series S). This question is for the Series. It came with a controller that was working perfectly until last night when, after I powered it off to take a break, powered on but no inputs would register. I use it only via wireless. It turns on the console and even logs me into my account (since it's our assigned main controller), but I can't use it after that.

I followed several guides and power cycled it, reconnected it, tried a USB wired connection --nothing. I plugged it into my PC where it worked fine on the Xbox Live cloud gaming website. I also installed the Xbox Accessories app for Windows 10 to check for updates, but it said the firmware is up to date. A controller test within the app registers all my inputs normally.

We also tried our older One S controller with the Series S console and it worked fine. Just now I tried the Series controller with the older One S xbox and it connected and functioned like normal as well. For some reason, the Series console refuses to detect the Series controller no matter what I do. I even left it without batteries overnight to give it a superstitious "rest," to no avail.

Any ideas what is going on?

Try signing into a different profile on your Xbox to see if the issue persists. If that doesn't help the last step to try would be factory resetting your console:

Press the Xbox button to open the guide.
Select Profile & system > Settings > System > Console info.
Select Reset console.
Select Reset and keep my games & apps

standard xbox one controllers have been replaced with the series s/x controllers that work with all xbox one consoles and the new series s and x and even pc. they are readily in stock all over the uk, try argos.

Xbox Series X|S controllers are fully compatible with the Xbox One, One S and One X. Also the Xbox One controllers work on the new Series consoles.

Xbox wireless controllers, including the latest Xbox Wireless Controllers included with the Xbox Series X and Series S consoles, are compatible with the Xbox Series S. In addition, some older Xbox One wireless controllers work with the Xbox Series S. As for third-party wireless controllers, the compatibility depends on the specific controller and whether it is designed to work with the Xbox wireless protocol. The Ant eSports controller you mentioned appears to be a third-party controller designed for PC gaming, and it may not be compatible with the Xbox Series S.
