    Hello, I need someone from tech support (preferably security) to contact me IMMEDIATELY.

    TL;DR: I found a document online containing 500,000+ usernames and passwords for xbox live online. I believe they are legit as it contained MY email address and correct password!!!

    Update: also the doc was uploaded like a week-ish ago so it appears to be current.

    Xbox security team should check it out and probably notify affected (or all) users.

    Story of how I found it:

    I have not played on Xbox live in many years but my daughter just won a free xbox360 and we are going to login to play the old games I had (Castle Crashers!) ….

    Problem was that I hadn’t logged into the account in many years and I wasn’t sure I even remembered the email address I used (certainly an old one), let alone the password.

    I tried the email address I thought it was along with many passwords i had used around that time but wasn’t having any luck.

    Finally I decided to do an online search for the email address in question hoping to confirm or find some details on it like the gamer profile or something — anything!

    What I DID find was a document someone has posted on a public ally available file share that contains 500k+ Accounts.

    It contained my email and password. Fortunately, I was able to recover my account thanks to this hacker (I have mixed feelings about this Security breach — leaked credentials 500,000+ users :) ) BUT also realize I don’t want so many people’s credentials to be compromised.

    Please Xbox support contact me ASAP, preferably someone on the security team who knows how to handle a serious situation like this.

    Yes, very good advice. I did this immediately with mine of course and all we can really do now is tell everyone to change their passwords…

    Also I was hoping if the Microsoft people got involved they could engage the site hosting the document to remove it too…. Although I’m sure it’s been shared elsewhere… :(

    Also maybe support could reach out to the affected users and let them know they should change their own ASAP!

    change your email password immediately and that is all you can do

    email addresses and more have been widely pilphered

    I use a homemade password generator to conjure up new ones when a new leak surfaces

    chrome and edge can also suggest one
