If maybe the issue persists, to isolate a bit more the issue I can advise you other things to do in your system: (if one doesn't work proceed with the next)

1. Open task manager > startup tab > disable all the programs listed there > restart your PC and give it a new try

2. Uninstall the Xbox app from your computer, then press Windows Key + X and select Powershell (Admin) and type or copy/paste this command:

Get-AppXPackage | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register "$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml"}

Restart your PC and check if the Xbox app appears again, if not install it again via Microsoft Store or from here: https://aka.ms/XboxInstaller

3. Run the SFC tool to find possible system corruptions:

4. Perform an in-place upgrade for your system:

Just to double check, is your Steam account connected to your Microsoft account?

Open game bar (Windows key + G) > Settings > Accounts > if yes, please unlink it temporarily. After that do the previous, but only the reset and repair thing with these apps:

Game Bar, Xbox App, Sea of thieves app.

Restart your PC, open game bar again and link your steam account. And finally try again .

By the way, the play option (the ones that redirect you to Steam) is the one inside the Xbox PC app?

I don't have the game pass ultimate, just the PC game pass.
I tried the game on my other computer and the invitations are working, but I can't play the game as it's a very old portable computer, the game is freezing etc ^^'
That's why I don't understand why it's not working on my gaming PC.

First, we made sure that my friends were inviting me through the Xbox Game Bar using my Xbox account and not steam.
We tried to clear my Xbox Live credentials.
We made sure that SoT wasn't installed via steam before on this current PC (never had SoT on steam yet anyway).
And finally, we tried a full clean installation of SoT using the "CleanUpCorruptInstalls" tool.

That's odd, sea of thieves has crossplay no matter the platform/store.

Do you have Xbox game pass ultimate? If yes, could you test temporarily crossplay feature using cloud gaming?

Or if you can the game try using a different PC, please do it

And, which troubleshooting steps you have done so far to fix this problem?
