    Screen goes black when changing monitor refresh rate from 120 hz to 144 hz.


    So i have a MSI Optix G271 and whenever i change my refresh rate from 120 to 144 my monitor shows a bit of life on the top but the bottom half of my monitor is black. This issue randomly started and worked fine before. i am using a DP cable and have drivers updated for my RTX 2060. Any thoughts?

    Hello theganzboiiif, from what I understand in your description you are using the Display Port input, your monitor has HDMI input, already did a test by hdmi input to see if the same happens.

    Hi,

    I would try to rule out an issue with your GPU or drivers first. To do this, completely remove your NVIDIA drivers using DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller).

    1. Download DDU (don't run it yet)
    2. Go to the NVIDIA website and download the latest driver for your RTX 2060 and place this driver in a folder for later (don't install it yet)
    3. Run DDU and clean your system of the graphics driver
    4. Reboot and install the Driver you got from NVIDIA earlier
    5. Test changing the refresh rate.
    DDU is quite straightforward to use. Select NVIDIA from the drop down and click 'Clean and restart'.

    HDMI 1.4 is suitable for supporting 144 Hz at a resolution up to 1080p. However, there are some specific monitors that can only support up to 120 Hz at 1080p resolution. So, you should check that first if your monitor is capable of handling 144 Hz over HDMI.

    whenever you see a refresh rate that is not a multiple of 60, this is a refresh rate that is likely fake and designed to be used with a computer.l

    Most monitors use the cheapest possible software and electronics, relying on the computer to fill the gaps. your monitor is not capable of 4K 120 Hz, only 60

    If you didn't pay at least $500 for your display, chances are it can't actually do 120 Hz.

    By the way I might have made a mistake in my question. Obviously the full potential of the monitor is 1440p@144 hz but I am only looking for 1440p@120 hz
