Sappho banned from gamertags?

I’m trying to change my gamertag, but multiple words relating to being a lesbian or sapphic are banned, including sapphic itself. Sappho, sapphic, and butch are all non-derogatory words but none of them are allowed in gamertags. Why? I’d understand if it was a blanket ban of terms relating to sexuality for player safety, but that isn’t the case since gay is allowed in gamertags. What’s the deal?

It clearly doesn't contain inappropriate words etc if even Nintendo allowed it. I've never had an issue with this name, between my other consoles and dozens of mobile games. It's a combination of Sappho/Sapphic and Baphomet. And if it's flagging it for Sappho, I'm sorry but I'm calling homophobia. Unlike most other terms for queer folk, Sappho/Sapphic has not been used in abusive or toxic instances. Even Disney mobile games allow me to use variants of my full gamertag (which is Lady_Sapphomet). If Disney and Nintendo can allow it, the Microsoft/Xbox can.

We receive an update from the Internal Support Team about your concern.

The terms in correct spelling have already been taken and it would not be possible for you to reuse it. On the brighter side, alternative spelling for these terms: Sappho and Sapphic should be available to be use as part of your gamertag. Just make sure the attached names/character combination before and after these terms should not be blocked.

That means you'll have to be extra creative in creating your gamertag.

Game licences are not transferrable so you wouldn't be able to transfer it to a new gamertage, no.

As to buying a new licence on the banned gamertag, not sure what the point would be if the gamertag is banned from the game? The new licence would still be banned if the gamertag is banned from the game itself.

Banned consoles cannot access Live.

Because a console is banned does not mean an individual's gamertag was banned. The two are not linked that way. If a console is banned but the gamertag is not banned, the gamertag can access Live from an unbanned console.

Assuming the gamertag isn't banned, the banned console owner can buy another console, and assuming they abided by the Terms of Use, continue using Live with their gamertag.
