Samsung TV wont work with HDR setting on - Xbox One S

Hi

I have recently bought a Samsung 55" TU8000 HDR Smart 4K TV. I have an Xbox One S.

I also got the Halo Infinite multiplayer and this was the first time playing my Xbox with the tv.

I would start the game up, and as soon as the initial halo loading screen was finished, my Xbox would stay on, but the tv screen would go black with a loading symbol (a circle made up of mini circles) and then I’d get a blue screen from Samsung with a message saying check that the device is connected properly, then try turning on the device by selecting the button below.

The Xbox is still actually switched on at this stage but it’s as if the screen isn’t connected any longer. I then have to turn the Xbox off and on by the button to get back on to the console.

I couldn’t work out what the issue was and then as soon as I turned off HDR on the video mode settings the game started to work however I noticed the graphics aren’t as good as I’d hoped. This is not ideal as I’m not getting the most from the game. Maybe I’m wrong.

I also tried clicking calibrate hdr for games and it does the whole process all over again. So it must be something to do with HDR.

On my Samsung tv settings I have the game mode setting on and Input signal plus selected to hdmi 1 which is the port I am using for the Xbox.

My tv has all the capability so I’m not sure what the issue is. Could it be the hdmi cable that isn’t compatible with hdr?

Has anyone had similar issues and knows a fix?

I could try Samsung but I’m not sure they’ll have direct knowledge on the Xbox one s.

I looked for any updates on the tv and it said it was up to date.

Most TVs require you manually enable HDR on those ports, have you done so?

My understanding is that on the Samsung model I have, to use hdr you need to go on input signal plus on the tv settings, and switch it on for whatever hdmi port you are using. I’ve tried that for all of them. It’s when this is on that’s causing the issue but it’s needed.

Is that what you’re referring to? Otherwise I’m not sure how do that.

I’ve tried all 3 ports, hdmi 1,2 and 3.

I’ve tried changing the colour depth to all the different 3 settings and nothing. Doing this even starts some flickering.

VVR is not switched on.

As soon as I turned off Input signal plus for all of the hdmi ports, I was able to select 4K HD as the resolution but when I click 4K tv details it’s now showing as if my tv isn’t 4K capable - I suspects that’s because I’ve clicked the input signal plus off. As soon as I click that back on and go to say 1080 resolution, it recognises my tv as having all of the 4K features.

This is frustrating. My hdmi cable says on it high speed hdmi e321484. I’m tempted to buy a newer 4K hdmi cable to see if that works. I can’t think of any other solution?

Well, buying a new cable won't do any harm and would rule out the cable as being the issue I guess

Beyond that, unless you can test the Xbox itself on another 4k TV, not sure I have the knowledge to suggest much else....maybe try contacting Samsung to see if they have any suggestions?

I assume you have checked to make sure there aren't any firmware updates for your TV?
