Samsung Q90T - Xbox Series X Display Issue When Running Some Games

There are plenty of 4k tv's on sale right now.

Walmart has a Samsung 50" 4k TV for for $248.

I've always had Samsung tv's and I'm quite enjoying my 85" 4k Q90T Samsung I got 2 years ago. It runs 4k at 120hz and looks amazing.

I don't have a soundbar setup, just straight from console to TV.

I feel like Samsung can't really deny that the update is the cause. I tested the Series X with another display and could not replicate the issue. That's on top of the fact that everyone having this issue is using some form of Samsung TV...

For the monitors that fully support 1440P @120Hz, HDMI 2.0 is enough. You don't need HDMI 2.1. The Samsung G5 1440P is one of those monitors. However, the rated 165Hz is for PCs running the monitor through Display port. That being said, HDMI 2.0 on this display has enough bandwidth for 1440P at 120Hz.

The important thing to note is that Xbox One X or Series X isn't like a PC and games won't run better automatically just because you've got a 1440P display. Many Xbox Series X games will still render internally at 4K and will be downscaled to the lower display resolution. You'll only see improvements in performance if said performance options are available in the game. As far as I'm aware, ACC does not have a 1440P performance mode. It doesn't need it though as it a pretty solid (for the most part) 60fps game - well, it is on Xbox Series X anyway.

These gaming monitors have a technology called FreeSync which is also supported by the console. FreeSync eliminates screen tearing and judder when performance drops.

what i can gather is hdmi 1.4 supports 1080p at 120hz and 1440p at 75hz so it will run with series x but you will be stuck at 1440/60hz most likely.

now if the series x had display port that would solve the issue.

most games will be targeting 60fps on 1440 and 4k anyway on the series x with some varying degree.

Xbox game streaming is currently limited to 1080P. This means it will look no different on the Series X|S to what it does on the original Xbox One or when running via a device with a 4K display.
