Rise of the Tomb Raider only starts with DLC installed, if console is switched offline.

For troubleshooting purposes, do you have a different external hard drive you could use? Also, what specific DLC do you have installed that is causing the issue?

Sadly I don't have another external drive here atm, sorry.

Which DLC is installed does not matter. I own all DLC for the game and if I install any of them - even a 10 MB costume DLC - the problem occurs.

The external works fine with other games.

You definitely should check the link I provided above your post for additional infos.

 

I should also add that I now have (for testing purposes) the main game on the external and DLC on the internal drive and I can launch the game by either going offline or with the button technique mentioned in that post at the square enix forums.

Thanks for the extra info. I figured the spare external HDD was a long shot but it was worth asking! If you're willing to try troubleshooting some more, I'd like to try having you remove all the DLC you own for the game except for

Baba Yaga: The Temple of the Witch. Make sure both the main game and that DLC are both on your external HDD, then try to boot up the game.

Let me know if that works and if so, we might want to try different combos until we can figure out what is causing the issue.

I just checked again with the main game on the external drive and Baba Yaga only, but it did not work.

As soon as any DLC is installed on the external drive the game only starts if the console is offline or if you use the button combo.

Seems the DLC won't authenticate if installed on an external drive. Based on the square enix forums it may be region specific.

Atm the game launches fine with the game on the external drive and the DLC on the internal drive.

 

Interesting. I have the game and all it's DLC installed on an external hard drive with no issues. The only difference I can see is that you're using an SSD hard drive where I use a plain old WD Elements.

I'm wondering if it's something to do with the nature of how SSD drives store data compared to none SSD drives.

Do you have the external drive set as the default location for all downloads/installs in the storage settings on the Xbox ?

 

Which hard drive enclosure is it you're using ?

I tested if changes in the options for the default location made any difference a while ago, unfortunately it did not.

The SSD is a Samsung 830 in an Inateck 2,5-Zoll USB 3.0 case.

My bet is that it's an issue with the Live service and the last Xbox update in Australia and Germany, because the game is launching if the console is set to offline which bypasses the DLC check. After launching the game you can set the console online again
and it works fine from there.
