Rise of the Tomb Raider only starts with DLC installed, if console is switched offline.

As of late if I start Rise of the Tomb Raider on my Xbox One, it goes back to the home screen after a few seconds.

After I tried several suggested troubleshooting steps like uninstall, power cyle, reinstall, clearing cache and save data, reseting my Xbox One, I learned that the game launches without problems if no DLC are installed. If any DLC is installed - doesn't
matter which - the game won't start.

It worked fine with all DLC about a month ago.

In addition if I switch my Xbox One to offline the game launches fine with ALL DLC installed!

It seems to be some communication/authentication problem with the server.

All other games and services work fine.

So how do I get rid of this problem?

sry for my bad english. I bought the Xbox One Bundle Rise of the Tomb Raider. I got the Tomb Raider 2013 and Rise of the Tomb Raider but i didnt get the dlc
Tactical Survival Kit Content Pack. The Redeem card have only one key and this is the game Rise of the Tomb Raider and no code for the dlc.

I hope you can help me with my problem.

Hi, having not played the game for a while I just loaded it up, I have all the DLC installed and have no problem with the game launching. I suspect that you may have a corrupted game save on cloud which could be causing the issue as the save isn't loading.
The only thing I would try is to delete the local saves and cloud save, that would of course mean starting the game over from the beginning though.

As the game works fine when offline things to me at least point to a bad save file on cloud which is causing the game to quit out when online.

I deleted the local save files and it synched with the cloud saves without problems. So the local saves are the same as the cloud saves.

If I switch the console to offline the game loads every save fine. I can even switch the console back to online after I got the game running and every save loads fine.

It's only a problem with launching the game.

If I delete every DLC the game launches without problems and every save works fine too.

 

If you're not overly concerned about starting the game over then I really would delete the local and cloud saves, I had to start forza horizon 2 from scratch more than once due to a corrupted cloud save causing the game to crash back to the home screen which
is frustrating.

All I can say for sure is the game launches fine here with all the DLC installed.

It's a tricky one for sure but as cloud saves are only synced when online I have a feeling that the cloud save despite it syncing is the culprit.

 

Yeah but I have launched the game with exact the save files I have now without problems before.

Plus the game launches with the save files after redownloading them from the cloud if the Xbox is switched to offline - so they can't be corrupt. Additionally everything works fine with these saves if no DLC are installed. But if any DLC is installed be
it a costume or Baba Yaga it does not matter then the problem occurs. There must be some check with the DLC that is causing the trouble.

Plus the synch with the cloud happens when you can already see the ingame menu screen. The game crashes before that.

Other people seem to have the same problem if you wanna check
forums.eu.square-enix.com/showthread.php and there it seems to be a sign in process problem.

It looks like some sort of verification failure with the DLC.

I might try to make a second account and delete the local saves and try to start the game that way it should not download saves from the cloud because it is another account and I can test it without loosing my progress and much more time right?

 

Btw. if you wanna try: delete your local saves and look when the cloud synch happens.

 

Good idea about trying with a different account.

The cloud won't sync when offline though, that's what is making me think it's the cloud save that is bad as it's only when connected to live you have the problem.

You could also try removing and adding your account back to the Xbox although it looks like you did that already.

 

Yeah I tried that already.

I noticed when I go back online after I launch the game I can acces the ingame marketplace and there not all DLC are marked as "already owned" even though I own them all - might have something to do with that.

 

Deleted all saves made new account. Fresh save file no safes from other account and no synch from other account. -> Game launches without DLC - game launches with DLC only if offline.

So it can't be the saves.

 

You haven't changed the region of your account or changed the Xbox region/language settings at all ?

 

If anyone is interested, we managed to find that the problem only occurs if the game is installed on an external ssd.

If the game is moved from the ssd to the internal hdd the problem does not occur. Formating the ssd and moving the game back did not fix the problem. Other games launch fine from the external ssd.

The problem seems to be linked to (external?) ssds and (Rise of the Tomb Raider?) DLCs.

 

I just checked Killer Instinct (with some DLC) on the external ssd and it worked without problems so...
