Reward Credits and Taxes

Do the reward credits also cover taxes or do I need to add another form of payment to cover that?

Xbox live rewards

Have completed two of the Xbox Live Rewards Missions: Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Wildlands Deluxe Edition [12,000 Reward Credits] and Buy $60 game before tax [6,000]

I only received the Reward credits for buying a $60 game before tax. I bought it since last Monday so I should have received it by now

Rewards mission

I was wondering why the rewards credits are not showing up in my account for the rewards mission. I spent $60 before tax like the mission explains. The credits are not showing as pending. I feel that any purchase should get rewards points.

If you have enough currency on file to cover taxes, then you can use it all. If you don't then you would need another payment method.

I just experienced this issue, having redeemed a $10 Xbox digital gift card from Microsoft Rewards.

I was trying to make the purchase through the web, and the dialog that came up asked how I wanted to pay for the rest. Unfortunately, it did not say how much the rest was, so I did not know whether the rest was $9.99 (i.e., my credit cannot be used and
sales tax is not charged), $10.61 (i.e., my credit cannot be used and sales tax is charged), or $0.61 (i.e., my credit can be used and sales tax is charged).

I contacted Xbox Live Support, and the representative thought it might be sales tax but was unsure.

We were able to determine that sales tax *is* charged, so the problem was simply that I did not have enough credit.

I believe that the Rewards program falls under the scope of "Gifts" so are not taxable.

You can check through your transactions at
http://commerce.microsoft.com or the list of deposits you have on your statement on the rewards site.

I'm not sure exactly what amount it would have to be in order to have to report it. As it's not truly cash, I'm not sure how it would be reported. You would really need to talk to someone at the IRS or someone who deals with this stuff to know for sure.

Head over to the rewards page and then click My Rewards and finally Review My Statement. It will show you amounts for 1, 3, 6 months or lifetime earned.
