Reusing Gamertags

Hi,

After speaking to someone at support they told me I was able to request to recycle a gamer tag that is not in use.

I would like to swap my gamertag to something I had on another account but it is stuck in the process of being recycled. Is it possible for someone to verify the account and manually recycle it due to it not being in use.

Can someone please help me out?

They actually did not give you correct information. It is not possible to request a gamertag. If it's already in use, you can use the tag, but you'll be given a suffix to differientiate you from the other. Otherwise, a tag is only freed up if the owner changes it to something else or they don't sign into their Xbox account for 5 years. If a person doesn't sign into their Microsoft account within 2 years, that will close the account which should also free up the tag.

My situation is that the tag was used by me on an empty account and i switched so it would be free to use on my main account. But i am still given the suffix even though the name is currently not in use.

Possible, but costly. You will need to make 2 name changes, at 800MSP each. It will cost around $20.
