Restore factory setting won't accept it

Hi, I hope you're doing great despite the issue you're experiencing. I am an Independent advisor and I am here to help you in regard to your concern.

As per the Xbox Support "You need to perform an offline system update. To do this, you'll need:

A Windows-based PC with an internet connection and a USB port

A USB flash drive with a minimum 6 GB of space formatted as NTFS"

Here you go:

"1. Plug your USB flash drive into a USB port on your computer.

2. Open the Offline System Update file OSU1. - https://www.xbox.com/xboxone/osu1

3. Click Save to save the console update .zip file to your computer.

4. Unzip the file by right-clicking on the file and selecting Extract all from the pop-up menu.

5. Copy the $SystemUpdate file from the .zip file to your flash drive. The files should be copied to the root directory, and there shouldn't be any other files on the flash drive.

6. Unplug the USB flash drive from your computer."

Yeah this is the way I have been trying and failing. I think the machine is just done. I might have to just get him a new one.

Sure, sorry I couldn't help resolve your issue!

You can factory reset by:

1) Go to System Settings > Console Settings

2) Make a note of the Console Serial number under System Info

3) Go to Memory and press Y

4) Select Format (Make sure you don't leave anything you don't want to be deleted on the console.)

5) Enter Serial Number, and you should be good!

Note: this will not delete your gamer profiles, game saves etc. So you should have no issues getting them back from the cloud. You might not need to enter your serial number, depending on the model of your console.

Hope this helped! If this is the method that you tried to use and didn't work, you might need to contact the Xbox support team, as I'm fairly certain this is the only way to do it.

I believe when you try restoring to factory through settings you will find that you won't be able to do so. But yeah, you will need to choose a complete factory reset. Do NOT keep apps and settings.
