    Resident Evil 7 for XBOX Series S - "No Profile Selected"


    When starting Resident Evil 7 on XBS/S, I get stuck in a "No Profile Selected" loop that occurs whether you select a profile when prompted or not and this makes the game legitimately unplayable.

    * Restarted console

    * Checked for updates (updated console, no updates available for software)

    * Reinstalled game

    * Cleared cache

    * Tried other profiles

    * Deleted local saves (was able to restart and begin the game but after saving and quitting to home, the bug occurred again and prevented play)

    * Tried deleting local saves again, no change

    This issue could be caused by a corrupted game file or a problem with your Xbox profile. Here are some steps you can try to resolve the issue:



    1. Try signing out of your Xbox profile and then signing back in. To do this, go to the Home screen, select your profile icon, and then select "Sign out."



    2. Clear the persistent storage on your Xbox Series S. To do this, go to Settings > System > Storage > Manage storage > Persistent storage > Clear persistent storage.



    3. Uninstall and then reinstall the game. Make sure to delete all game files and saved data before reinstalling.

    Resident Evil 7 for XBOX Series S - "No Profile Selected"

    I figured this out finally.

    I had a generic wired controller connected to the USB in the console and unplugged it.

    That set everything in forward motion.

    Plugging it back in resulted in the same bug occurring.

    If you have a second controller or multiple connected, try unplugging them before starting the game. This has consistently remedied the error.
