Reset TV on Xbox one s - no 4k option anymore on main TV after using a 2nd 1080p Tv

How do I just completely reset the Xbox to re-detect my display as it won’t allow me to use 4k resolution after I passed the signal through a splitter to both my 4k Tv and my 1080p Tv.

Before anyone says - I’ve tried the auto detect many times and it still doesn’t work even direct to a different hdmi port.

    The detail:

Yesterday I got my hands on an Xbox one s to use as a media device primarily.

Connected it up and all worked fine - I had 4k and could use it at 4k. Brilliant.

At home I have a splitter which sends my previous Xbox 360 signal to both my living room Tv and my conservatory TV. No problem as both support 1080p.

Having tried to view my Xbox one on the conservatory Tv it would not display as its only 1080p. No bother - I changed the resolution and all worked fine.

After I had finished I turned the resolution back to 4k and turned the Tv off.

I then turned the 4k Tv on to a message that it doesn’t support 4k and now even though i am connected to the 4k Tv through another hdmi it still won’t let me select 4k anymore.

It’s as if the Xbox has decided my 4k Tv can’t support 4k as I was viewing it through the splitter on a 1080p Tv.

I’m stuck - I cant see an option to ‘reset’ the damn thing and make the Xbox realise that this Tv does support 4k. I just want to wipe the memory of the Tv and get it to detect it again. I’ve tried the switch to manual and switch back to automatic but no luck.

    :)

    4K Display issues

    Hey there!

Have you gone through the steps and suggestions on our
Troubleshoot 4K on Xbox One S support page
? One of the steps mentioned is setting the TV Resolution on your Xbox One S to 1080p, while ensuring the 'Allow 4K' box is checked within 'Advanced TV' settings. The TV resolution setting is specifically for setting
how non 4K content is scaled, and will still allow native 4K content to play at 4K on your display.

If the flicker issues persist with native 4K content after setting your TV resolution setting to 1080p, please post back the brand and model number of your 4K display so we can take a deeper look!

Which should I get: Xbox One S or Xbox One X or neither and wait for the next console update?

I also had a Xbox One (the Day One edition) with Kinect.

I skipped the Xbox One S, as I mainly play games on the console, and the "upgrade" to 4K video content wasn't enough, as I didn't own a 4K TV. And since they already announced the Xbox One X (back then codenamed Project Scorpio) that promised more graphical
    fidelity, I waited for that.

So, I bought the Xbox One X in November 2017. Even if you don't have a 4K TV (yet), the downsampling the Xbox One X does, improves the graphics even on 1080p devices.

If you have the chance to try a Xbox One X at a friends house, or maybe in a store, there is a free demo app called "Insects" where you can toggle 4K, HDR and spatial surround on and off (in case the TV supports 4K and HDR). If the TV is "only" a 1080p TV,
you can still toggle 4K to see the difference in clarity and sharpness between the 1080p rendered graphics and the 4K downsampled graphics.

And for me, the graphical difference was worth the upgrade to the Xbox One X.

Also, since you say you plan to get a 4K TV, you should get the One X, as the One S only supports 4K video from UHD BluRays or Streaming services like Netflix or Amazon. The One S does not support 4K gaming.

Be aware however, that Microsoft doesn't produce the Kinect Adapter any more, as the X and S models don't have the dedicated Kinect port anymore. So your only option to use Kinect on the X or S, is to buy such an adapter used from eBay or the likes.

the series s support up to 1440p but to use that resolution you would need a monitor not a tv as most if not all tv's support 1080p or 4k.

series s will upscale to 4k though.

    Hi,

A 4K TV with Xbox One X is the Optimal experience, it's not mandatory. The console can make use of 'super Sampling' which will give a better picture on a 1080p TV than a standard Xbox One or Xbox One S.
