Thanks for keeping us updating on the issue with resetting the Elite controller. As mentioned above by XBF Amber, try using the following resource articles:

• Use the Xbox Accessories app to configure your Xbox Elite Wireless Controller

Try it out and let us know the results.

Oh, if that doesn't happen to other controllers, I don't recommend a factory reset. I suggest to request for a service or replacement for your elite controller.
