You usually don't buy codes from Microsoft as you usually buy items directly from Microsoft.

I don't doubt that you saw that, I'm just stating that how you've been charged is correct.

Design lab controllers are actually charged immediately since it is a customized item. That means the order has been accepted and has gone into production. Once it ships you will receive an email with tracking. It can take 2-3 weeks to receive the controller.
