    Repeated initial update failure


    Hi,

    My nephew got a used Xbox One for Christmas however we have been unable to complete the update after initial set-up of the console. We have tried a factory reset and followed it with a wireless update on numerous occasions and also have put the update on
    an external hard drive and tried the update from there. On each occasion it reaches 76% or so and says it is going to restart. However the Xbox turns off and does not restart. We need to remove the power cable for 30 seconds in order to get the console to
    switch on again. We have received an error E101 message on a couple of occasions, but this has been rare. Does anyone have any solutions to this, as we have one very disappointed 10 year old at the moment?!

    Hi there NoRoXiM,

    I recommend you try using the
    Offline system diagnostic tool     first or better yet contact xbox support for more assistance.

    Offline should work so than when you connect to online all your doing is game updates

    ZappyKins, if you read the initial post you'd know this user had no update and was not connected to the LIVE servers for at least a week. Please stop blaming a software update for hardware failure.

    There is no design flaw. If I had to venture a guess I'd say you have the PSU in a bad spot and it's over-heating and damaging the unit.
