Remove suffix from (available) gamertag

I have a problem with my gamer tag.

At first my gamer tag on this account was something else, but I changed it to with the free gamer tag change that was available some time ago.

I used to have another account with this gamer tag, which I changed to 2 so I could change this account to .

Only problem is, when I did that, it added 4 numbers after as if itself was already taken.

I was wondering if it was possible to get rid of these 4 numbers, as the tag is available, and I can't directly change from #xxxx to just , as when I try this it tells me I already have that gamer tag...
It this point I'd even pay once to change it, but it's currently impossible for me to change my gamertag from #xxxx to just . I've tried reaching out the support chat multiple times but every single time I was told stuff that either didn't apply to my case or wasn't even true to begin with.
It'd be great to get some help with this, as it's really annoying.

When I try to change my gamertag, in order to pay it asks me for my address. Only problem is, I'm not American and it only allows me to enter an American address. Is there any way I can change my gamertag as a non american?
Edit: I do have an address added to my microsoft account, but it does not show up

So the only way I can remove the suffix is by paying for a gamertag change twice? Is there no way to not have to pay double to simply remove a suffix?

You would have to change your tag to something else and wait for it to free up before changing it back again.
