    Removal of Toslink port


    So Microsoft have deleted the Toslink (optical port) citing lack of use & cost as the reason -

    Quoting costs that make it seem like it's an astronomical expense - & totally ignoring one of the main purposes of the port itself

    Cost $2 per port - come on, in bulk there pennies literally, you the cost of deleting the HDMI in port, more than covers the cost of the toslink port

    And citing headphone use as the reason for deleting the port ???

    The main purpose is to split 5.1 Audio to AV amps so we dont have to listen through the TV when watching a film

    Pushing everything through HDMI means we cant watch in 4K unless we invest in a 4K AV amp, which needs to be on at all times -

    Sometimes i don't want the AV amp on - late night gaming for instance

    You say your doing updates for all the headsets etc... what about the gamers who used toslink?

    What to do with the TOSLINK port

    It would be harder to find a receiver without it tbh, it's been standard for a long time, this is why myself and many others have left posts complaining that it is NOT enabled yet....so before you buy a rec. might want to wait, trust me when I say that this
    is irritating...TB X42's only getting analog stereo along with other components, long story short it doesn't matter if you bought one today if there is no digital audio enabled your going to be in analog stereo along with the rest of us, at least you have
    plenty of time to shop.

    What to do with the TOSLINK port

    Right now the xbox one output optical TOSLINK 5.1 threw DTS surround. DTS is actually better then Dolby 5.1 but some audio equipment doesnt have support for DTS, dolby toslink support is set to come next year, but right now 5.1 with toslink is possible
    (ive been using it) but only if your recieved supports DTS. Best option you have now is to set the toslink optical to stereo, and then use your dvd player to put it into Dolby Pro Logic II mode. This mode a simulated 5.1 that takes a stereo signal and makes
    it a kinda fakish 5.1 while not true 5.1 is will be better then just 2.0 stereo till dolby is patched in.

    The toslink cable is just another way to send audio. If you are already using the HDMI to connect your X1 to your TV or receiver, you shouldn't need to hook up a toslink cable. I think more or less they put the optical port there for headsets.

    I'm going to assume not because it likely uses the AV connectors (red/white). The Xbox One doesn't have an AV port and only supports HDMI or Optical Toslink.
