Refresh rate is too high on borrowed xbox.

Hello, i am having an issue with my friends xbox he recently let me borrow (meaning im new to xbox and usually use playstation).

He has a newer better monitor so he can handle higher Hz which leads me to believe in his xbox setting he has turned his refresh rate to something his setup can handle but mine can’t. and because of this i get an error on my DELL monitor telling me “CURRENT INPUT TIMING IS NOT SUPPORTED…”

I understand how to fix this if it was an issue with my pc, but it is not and i’m not to sure how to get into the xbox to change these settings if i can’t see the xbox screen.

    Some things i have tried:

    • unplugging monitor for a bit

    • changing hdmi

    • changing monitor settings on monitor and pc

So any tips or advice on how to resolve this would be very appreciated

120hz not working on my monitor

The xbox does not support high refresh rate monitors in the way you think. Also a display port to hdmi port will not work in the way you are trying to use it.

Xbox only supports up to 60 FPS with many only being 30FPS - so having a 144hz screen does nothing for you. In fact the high refresh rate will cause issues with miss matched refresh rates on the screen and output FPS of the xbox. Which will degrade your
    gaming experience.

Wonder if it's something in the refresh rates. Might go back into your settings and make sure they are high enough. A low refresh rate can cause screen flicker.

why is my Controller scrolling fast on Fallout 4?

    Hi,

Are you running this on a high refresh display?

This game is not designed to run at high frame rates. If you attempt to play this above 60fps, menu's will be become too fast, lock picking becomes almost impossible, and the physics will be either be very odd, or broken.

To fix it you have two options.

    • Lock the game FPS in your graphics driver control panel to 60fps
    • Or, change your display refresh rate to 60Hz

    144hz?

I'm afraid 60Hz is the maximum refresh for an Xbox One. You would need a One S or One X for 120Hz.

High refresh rates on consoles don't have the same impact as they do on PC. PC players go for high refresh rates because their hardware can reach the same frame rate as the refresh rate. I'm a PC player with a 144Hz 1440P monitor and with it I can hit upto
144 fps for silky smooth performance.

On console's they only have an impact on the screen image quality and controller to screen latency as most Xbox One games are locked at 30 fps.

    Hi,

Can't promise I can fix or otherwise find out what the problem is, but could you please provide the make and model of your monitor please?

In regards to a 'weird refresh rate' it's typically a custom refresh rate. Since console gaming on monitors is a relatively new 'thing' these days monitor manufacturers haven't been catering for high refresh rates over HDMI and sticking to VESA approved refresh rates. Not really a problem for PC graphics hardware as they can use these custom refresh rates without issues, but unfortunately Xbox console's can't.
