Redeem code is not readable

What I would recommend for this is to log in to https://support.xbox.com/contact-us and start a chat. When you get to a fellow gamer ask to be escalated to a Microsoft Advocate as only they will be able to help you recover the code.

You will need to contact Support to resolve that issue...

is mentioned for damaged or not readable codes which will also relate to lost codes:

(If it's a physical code, try returning it to the place you purchased it from and explaining that it couldn't be redeemed.)

Try going to where the code was purchased and seeing if the store can be of assistance.
