Recycling gamertags

Hi,

After speaking to one of your assistants through chat I was told that I was able to request your engineers to recycle gamertags.

I would like to change my gamertag but unfortunately my desired gamertag has been taken, looking closer at the profile it has not been used since the xbox 360 days and has been inactive for a number of amount of years.

Would it be possible for your engineers to assess this gamertag and come to a decision whether it should be recycled so that I could take the gamertag as I am a very active xbox gamer.

Yeah but the gamertag isnt in use anymore when you go to look up the gamertag I want no profile comes up

 

Here is no way to request a gamertag. The only way you can use it is if the original owner changes it to something else or they do not sign into the tag for 5 years (starting in 2016). Keep in mind that the tag system is in use on other Microsoft services,
so even if it is not in use on an Xbox, it may be in use somewhere else.

 

Well according to the person speaking to me form microsoft you can ....

And the user has not been active since xbox 360 days so its very close to 5 years...

I was told they recycle gamertags every 2 years on request so dont know where you are getting your information from??

 

Sorry, but whoever you spoke to did give you incorrect information (not uncommon from support actually). Microsoft used to have mass gamertag releases until they changed the policy in 2016 to the 5 year rule. They have never released a gamertag by request. If
the person who owns that account does not sign into that account by 2021, it'll be released. Otherwise, if they are still using the account somewhere (like Windows 10), they can continue to use it.

 

Okay fair enough if that's the case, thanks for your input it's a shame support couldn't tell me that and fed me some [Mod Removed-Profanity] to keep me searching

 

There are a lot of gamertags that are just 0 gamerscores and just sitting there for so long and no one hasn't use them at all

These gamertags needs to be recycled because no one not even active on them or probably they don't play xbox anymore, I'm very active on xbox and im online all the time, I was hoping if Microsoft can reset these gamertags so I can get one of these that I
listed. I know there's more GT's that are just 0 gamerscores or banned, is there an actual date to when they will reset?

Unfortunately we would not be able to provide you with an exact date as there is no method of deciphering when the account last logged in (due to the "Appear Offline" function.

Additionally, some of these gamertags would not be made available to the public due to the nature of their name as it could be viewed as a violation of the Xbox Live Code of Conduct.

The gamertag I wanted says it’s already in use, so i had to choose another version of it. However, When I searched the gamertag to see who has it, nothing came up. Said there was no match. So what does that mean? Is it just that whoever owns it doesn’t
actually have an xbox live account, just a microsoft account or something?

 

The system doesn't see things like spaces as making a gamertag unique. So usually that means you're searching for "gamertag" which won't show up, but the tag may actually be in use as "gamer tag".

 

Um ya, you definitely misunderstood. I didn’t post the gamertag that I wanted or was searching for. I was just saying that the gamertag I wanted Was not available to me, even though when I searched for it, there was no match.

 

I searched for the gamertag i wanted every which way. It was not due to spaces or anything like that. I already know that doing that doesn’t make it unique. I’ve been an Xbox gamer for a very long time. But thanks anyway

 

Thats not possible spaces caps and what not

There us millions of combinations

And yes you do have to be unique like completely different spelling so replacing letters with different characters or numbers will be youe best option

The system sees Gamertag is.the same as GAmer Tag or gamer tag or.ga mertag

So happy hunting

If the system sags its taken its taken nor will anyone realy sit thru millions of diffeerent combos for you

If the systems says no then its a no period
