If you have brought the digital version of Minecraft on Xbox then you should be able to download Minecraft through the Microsoft store as long as you are using the account of which you have brought it on.

My friend brought a physical disk and I brought the digital version at a higher cost, he received his download code straight away

Personally I never had very many issues with GFWL overall. I actually really liked it. A large portion of my Steam library was purchased for the games that supported GFWL. Since then Steam has stopped selling or blocked the use of the GFWL app for most of
the games. Luckily they allow me to still download my purchased content.

I have (or had) a nice amount of games and DLC I purchased threw the Games for windows marketplace app. The same thing happened with my Windows phones. More or less, unless I already have the content downloaded to the devices I use. I no longer can access
those titles in any Microsoft store. It really feels like I received spit in the eye honestly.

I'm right there with you though wanting to be able to access the content I've purchased. What stinks about digital purchases though. Even though we purchase the content. It's basically tied to a string and can be yanked away at any moment.
