Received a suspension for "real name" and not sure what this mean. Anyone have more info on...

I have an abbreviated name in those fields and have it hidden in the privacy settings so others can't see it. Any recommendations to avoid this in the future?

The only 100% safe solution is to make sure whatever you put in there doesn't break the rules.

You can enter in your first and/or last name and have it displayed to other players. You can enter anything into those fields, so you must have been using something that was against the rules.

I understand that, but for it to permanately be banned is a bit ridiculous.

If a name is in violation. Then it can never be used

You don't get a account perm ban unless you had multiple name change violations or something more serious

He meant his real name (ie: Alex, Bradley, Liam etc) Not his Gamertag

This is probably what happened:

There is an option in xbox settings to allow people to see your real name in your BIO area of your profile and if you went in there and changed the name on their to something that would be a violation of the code of conduct then what the enforcement team
would probably permanently suspend them for is from allowing other people to see their real name in their profile.

Steeledwand, you are usually amazing at helping people out, I really mean that, but this is simply not true. You do not get an account suspension. Just look at the policy: https://enforcement.xbox.com/en-US/home/staysafe#topic9.
It says in "What kind of enforcement can I expect" it says hiding the name. Nothing about communication or account suspensions/bans.

This is what the OP said in his post

Says nothing about account being permanently suspended just his real name that is where i got my assumption from.

And directly from that site that you put in your post SwiftPage4264

" If your Real Name content is deemed offensive it will not be changed, but the ability to share it with others on Xbox Live will be disabled."

So again i go back to my post it seems like what has happened with this guys account is that the enforcement team has taken away his ability to share his real name content with others.

Probably what has happened is the Xbox Enforcement team have restricted the Original Posters ability to create a new name, where it can be displayed alongside the Gamertag. Some people may feel like it is a suspension, however it isn't as such. Juat a restriction
in a service.

Directed to Original Poster ~ Unfortunately though, even know it wasnt you, it does state "Your Account, your responsibility". Thus meaning, if you do let people use your account on your Xbox. Watch them and make sure yoh know what they are doing. Alternatively,
get them to sign into their own account or use Guest.

If the Enforcement team have choosen to uphold their decision, then there is nothing much you can do about that.
