re-download of flight simulator purchased in microsoft store 8/2020 now asks for cd to run

my flight simulator i purchased in august 2020 has worked fine until a few days ago, tried all the recommended fixes online but still wouldn't finish loading, gets to about 70% then fails, even in safe mode the same thing.

decided to remove it completely after copying my community folder content then downloaded a fresh copy from my microsoft account.

installed that & did a lot of updating using the content manager then copied everything back to the community folder.

game opened fine & all content was there but as soon as i selected play a message came up asking for the disk ?

have i downloaded an incorrect version ?

The version could be different. Best way to back up any game progress is to do so on the cloud. The game can be synced from different devices and still use the same game progress. To avoid having such issues next time, save your progress on cloud storage.

All purchases of Microsoft flight simulator 2020 have been grandfathered into the 40th anniversary edition. You can download that game. All of the additional planes and airports that you paid for are available in the ingame store once you have installed it
