Random penalties

I just ran a perfectly clean race and it still gave me a penalty. So I started over and noticed it gave me a penalty again, recorded that and watched it from every angle. I didn't clip anyone, I didn't even get close to the edge of the track and still got
a penalty. I can't beat any of my rivals because I can't get a clean lap. Is anyone else having this glitch or know how to fix it?

Anyone know what covenants penalise you for leaving or betraying them?

I got sick of the cat in the woods so attacked it and since then I havnt dared try the ring she used to summon me, also I killed the caos witch by accident after I had given her 30 souls and obtained the new fire weapon, lol I was testing it out in the corridor
and it accidentally killed her, I did however get a firekeepers soul for this although its now a *** having to go through blight town to get back to Izaleth.

 

It sounds like you're trying to beat your rivals in career races and you're getting penalized for drafting. If you draft behind another racer or another racer drafts behind you then you will be penalized for the lap.

If you are looking to beat your rivals times - then you should run the rivals events to do this. In the rivals events the other cars are ghosted and you can't get penalized for drafting.

 

Drafting will be a penalty lap to stop people from boosting lap times.

 

I don't really have a problem with T10 denoting it as a "dirty lap" if drafting occurs, even though it's a perfectly legal strategy in pretty much every form of motorsport. But, it's their choice, so fine. My issue comes from the actual implementation
of the rule. I can usually manage to avoid drafting other cars when I need a clean lap, but when other cars that I have no control over draft me, and I get a penalty for it, that's where it gets annoying. I understand the general principle of the physics
of it, that I'm able to go faster because the car behind me is "smoothing out" and reducing the drag of the normally turbulent wake of air that I would leave...but when the following car is LITERALLY hundreds of meters behind me (to the point where I can barely
see him in my rearview)...and I STILL get a penalty...there's no word for that other than absurd. (Well, I can think of a few others, but they're not exactly fit to print here in a public forum.)

 

I like that the liberal application of dirty laps due to drafting keep the leaderboards a little cleaner. This pretty much forces people to use rivals mode (where drafting is a non-issue) when attempting to set leaderboard times. I think that's a good thing.

Clean vs. dirty laps have no other meaning in the game besides sorting on the leaderboards (clean laps always rank higher than dirty laps). So, if you're just doing career mode racing dirty laps are a non-issue anyways.
