  1. Quick Resume might be causing the controller not working for some titles and only the guide...

From the build notes for the issues I am referencing:

"We’ve received reports that the dashboard is unresponsive to controls (except the Xbox Button) when powered on from standby."

"We’ve received reports that controller input is not working when a game is launched"

I was suffering from these problems almost every boot up. Countless times I hard reset the console, restarted it, unplugged it, just to get it to finally work. After reset it would finally work until I shut the console down again, only for it to reappear on next boot up.

Then I opened Skyrim. It popped up as Quick Resume and stuttered like crazy. I quit out of it via the dashboard using the menu button on the tile and I haven't had the problem since then. For some reason despite the hard resetting and unplugging, it kept Skyrim opened and wouldn't close it out despite closing out the other games I had running. I had to manually quit out of the game from the dashboard just for Skyrim.

If you are having these issues, go back and open up older games and see if any of them pop up as Quick Resume. I haven't had this issue again so I can't test it but it's the only thing I have done recently that fixed my issue. Hope this helps!

Xbox Series X - Quick Resume Issues

No settings need changed on your end. Since Series launch MS has been tracking issues with Quick Resume. Some titles have had quick resume deactivated while they investigate.

    • While Quick Resume is fully operational with thousands of titles, we are aware that a select number of optimized titles may be experiencing issues with this feature. To ensure the best possible experience for our fans, we’ve disabled the feature for these titles and are working as quickly as possible to fix this issue at the platform level.

    Quick resume

Hello, begsback. Thanks for reaching out! My name is Lucas, and I'm an Independent Advisor and a Microsoft user just like you. I'll be happy to assist you today.

You can try to remove games from the quick resume feature. To not use quick resume when on standby:

    - Press the Xbox button on your controller to open the guide.

    - Select System > Settings > Power & startup > Power mode & startup.

    - Under Quick resume, toggle the setting to Off.

To remove games from the quick resume:

    - First, click on the Xbox button on your Controller, then “My games & apps”.

    - You will locate the list of games that are currently used in the feature Quick Resume.

    - Head to the game with the quick resume saved states that you are looking to remove.

    - In the highlighted game on your controller hit the Menu button (a small button with the 3 horizontal lines icon) to open up the pop-up menu.

    - Now in your pop-up menu, click on “Remove from Quick Resume”.

If you want to submit a feedback for the Xbox team to remove the quick resume feature or to have an option to complete turn it off, please use the Feedback Hub app. It is currently the best choice available for us players. Here on the community forum we are only users. We do not work for Xbox.
