Question regarding opening of Series X

Currently living in Singapore and my Series X warranty has expired for a while now and I'm wondering if it is okay to open up my Series X to clean away the dust. If I do so, am I still eligible for sending it in for service via Microsoft when I need to? I know I have to pay about $440 if I need to service my Series X because it's out of warranty but will opening it disallow me to use this service from Microsoft?

I think you might be wrong on that, the tamper seal is not worth the money it cost to make it as we as consumers have a right to repair, as long as the console is not damaged because of the cleaning they have to offer the out of warranty service for when it breaks down the road, and it will break because the SSD will fail and can't be replaced because it's married to the board.

Yes, they actually provide you 3 months for repair warranty for the console so no worries on that.

They are partially correct. In the US we have a right to repair our own consoles and per the FTC even if the warranty sticker has been removed and the system opened, companies still are required to offer repairs regardless.

That being said this varies from country to country depending on their laws. Not all countries have such protections so if you are in a country that doesn't have such a protection then they can deny a repair (even if you offered to pay for it) just for the warranty seal being tampered with.

To add on, do you have any experience in sending an item for service to Microsoft with an expired warranty and paying for the service, do they give another warranty for it even if its like 30 days?

I understand you have a question regarding the console service.

Actually, opening the console would tamper the device and that is grounds for voided services. If you still want to send your console for a service through Xbox, I would suggest doing that instead as opening the device would void your service with Microsoft and they will not repair that anymore once that happens.
