You were correct (of course!). I contacted the seller concerning the codes and received a refund. The description for the codes contained inaccurate information. I appreciate you!

go to the account and sign in at account.microsoft.com and sign in with his account. Go to subscriptions and turn off the autorenewal, this is automatically turned on when you get the $1 trial. Once his current $1 subscription runs out, you can then
add the codes you have. If they work his subscription will be active for that amount of time. If they do not work you will then have to turn back on the subscription to continue with game pass. Sometimes those codes are only for new accounts.

Anything less than 1 month is a trial code. So being 14 days, they are trials. If they work like regular game pass trials, you can't add them to an account that's already had game pass.

If you’re an organizer of an Xbox family group, you can choose the gamertag of the account that you’re reviewing under Viewing enforcement history for. Under Enforcement history or Active suspensions, you may find active enforcements for your account, or one that you’ve selected.

Choose an enforcement action to review more info about the cause and effect of the enforcement in the pop-up window.

If the enforcement action qualifies for case review, you can select Submit an appeal to receive more info from Xbox Safety.

After you’ve completed the form, select Submit.

And lastly, wait for the results of your appeal.

Context doesn't matter, unfortunately. While profanity is not outlawed entirely, if someone reports a message with a curse/swear word in it, that will lead to action against your account. So, whoever you sent the messages to reported you. Had they not done that, you would have been OK.
