nope if the system says it's taken then it's taken

I don't think you know how the system works

One it may not show up but it would still be in use

Remember gamertag is the same as Gamer TAg or game rtag

So it would be impossible for you to find the milluons of different combinations

You are just going to have to wait or be more creative

You.have.to be exact in spelling or.caps including spaces due to privacy and we'll reduces the chances of ..mistaken identity

But when trying to change your names the system checks for it so we don't have a ton of same names

if a xbox profile that someone else owns but are appearing offline and have no gamerscore or any friends, can you deactivate the account so i can get the gamer tag?

Thanks for coming to the forums with your question. Gamer tags get recycled at the discretion of Microsoft. For example few years ago they released over a million gamer tags.

As for the gamer tag you are wanting. The account still may be in use by the people who have it. Just because it isn't signed in on a console or anything. They could be using it for anything else like a PC, windows phone. Typically after an account is inactive
for 5 years it is deactivated. Being it hasn't been deactivated shows they are using it in some way.

Thanks for coming to the forums. We understand you are wanting a gamer tag that was accidentally created on a different account. When you delete or deactivate an account it takes 60 days for it to be deactivated. So at that time you should be able to claim
it then.
