Question about joining late. Is it possible?

Yeah it's completely optional. You wont break anything by staying as a werewolf, if that's what you want to do. I opted to stay as one at the end of that quest line, and I still am a good 100+ hours later.

is it a one-time chance in the quest to cure yourself? Or is it something you can do after that point in the questline?

[/quote]Once you've reached that stage in the quest you can cure yourself at any time afterwards. Although it's probably worth noting that it is permanent, like the vampire cure in Oblivion was.
